Hoarseness
Hoarseness is a condition common to dysphonia and is characterized by changes to vocal quality. It can occur for a variety of reasons, some of which include laryngitis, vocal cord nodules/polyps, Parkinson’s Disease, and vocal overuse or abuse.
Hoarseness can affect pitch, volume (quite versus loud), breath, and vocal strength. Speech therapy addresses hoarseness by providing education on underlying causes and providing exercises and techniques that reestablish vocal health and use.
