Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive neurological condition identified as a movement disorder. It is commonly associated with tremor, walking difficulty, and/or balance issues. However, Parkinson’s Disease can also affect communication and swallow function. Individuals with the condition may experience difficulty with word-finding and/or understanding others. Communication challenges may also include problems speaking loudly enough to be heard. Swallowing problems such as persistent throat-clearing or coughing during meals can also arise due to the condition.
Speech therapy addresses communication and swallowing concerns resulting from Parkinson’s Disease. Furthermore, treatment protocols such as LSVT LOUD® and SPEAK OUT!® (both of which we offer) specifically target vocal loudness in Parkinson’s Disease. Contact us to schedule a free consultation.
