Head & Neck Cancer

Head and neck cancer (HNC) refers to cancer of the nasal cavity, sinuses, oral cavity, salivary glands, throat, or voice box. Surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation may be recommended to treat the affected area.

HNC treatment can result in side effects that negatively affect speech, swallow, or voice skills. Speech therapy provides education on managing potential symptoms and minimizing their affects. Swallow therapy is recommended before, during, and after cancer treatment. It is particularly advisable prior to treatment to discuss exercises and techniques that may help maintain function.
